How to Get a "Job" Without Getting a Job...Any Ideas?

I'm broke - for the most part. I've spent my money building up my business wardrobe (and some clothes I don't need), paying bills and a few parking tickets. I do have some money saved up but I'm not sure for what. I want to move to New York one day to pursue a serious careers in journalism (including broadcasting and radio) and fashion design; both of which requiring serious money. But I also would like to continue my education in earning a fashion design certificate from Indiana University, which will also take some serious dough because I will no longer be on full football scholarship.

I don't need anymore clothes and I'm pretty much not going to be shopping for anything big anytime soon. I do have a paid summer internship with the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, which I plan on putting into a savings account, but I will still need more. Therefore, I'm considering cutting grass over the summer or maybe even babysitting (no infants please). Really, those are the only two things I can think of. I may try some freelance writing for a magazine or two, but I'm already going to be very busy. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make extra money? I'm not trying to be a waiter or a cashier anywhere so those are out of the question. Any help or advice I can get will be welcome. Thank you.

Honestly, baby-sitting is definitely a good option. I baby-sat for the past two summers and racked up a lot of cash. The family I worked for had me babysit at least three times a week for about 5-10 hours each day. At $10 and hour, that can be really helpful, especially because no taxes are taken out. :)

Also, you can often set your own salary. A lot of people ask you what your rate is and usually are willing to pay it.

This question is definitely tough though, because everyone is struggling to find a job. Maybe you should keep your options open and consider being a waiter. My friend is a waitress and she said she often makes $100+ in tips for each shift. She is pretty satisfied. So if money is the most important thing right now, you may want to consider it.

Good luck with your job search! And keep updating your blog- I'm a fan! :)

I'm working 40 hours a week for the Journal Gazette...so both of those suggestions are out. Thanks for commenting though. I'm glad to have you as a fan! I'll keep 'em coming!

Yeah, with a 40hr job, I guess that would be difficult. I am really not sure what you can do...

I have never looked into it before, so I am not exactly sure how it works, but what if you work as a temp?

Pizza or food delivery..you are a people person..wear your football jersey and smile. Better tips working weekend nights, not too hard. Or if you have nice restaurants or a catering place near you..valet parking attendant..

One more sugestion..e-bay lister..one year my son listed items a local antique dealer wanted to sell online. He got a percentage of every sale that was made and all he had to do was list the items online. He made some good easy money. You could check stores near you to see if they have inventory to sell or would want to post online..once you get set up its not that difficult or time consuming.
